Aw, that sucks. *hugs* Maybe she meant conservative in a non-political way?

Make sure that you ask her sister about that, though. It woudl really suck to live someplace for a year where you're constantly upset about things. And I know that some people are very conservative but okay (or at least tolerant) with gay people, so maybe that aspect wouldn't be so bad. (Example: there was a guy in my lab who was very conservative re: guns and marijuana, government, but was pro choice and pro gay rights.)
